I picked the foursome up from their cruise ship, the Carnival Dream, and we headed towards Magens Bay.  There was some chitchat about the weather and their cruise, thus far.  Turns out when they came 20 years ago they were on the Carnival Liberty.  Same cruise line, same port, “it was karmic” Kurt said.  As we approached the wedding site at Magens, a lovely spot with two large palm trees creating a natural “archway”, Jane and Kurt began recounting their first wedding experience.  “None of these buildings were here but I do remember the trawler in the water from the production of Weekend at Bernie’s 2 which was filming at the time.”  When Kurt said this, I had to laugh because that is, after all, one of Magens Bay’s “claims to fame”.   We all got out of the wedding van and walked towards the photographer and minister, and a beautiful, calm beach, which served as the backdrop for Jane and Kurt’s wedding photos and video two decades prior.  Meet-and-greet ensued and it was discovered that, coincidentally, we had booked the same photographer they had in ’92 and the minister, who like most islanders has more than one job, was their original videographer.  Coincidence?  Fate?  Karmic.

Kurt and Jane got into place for the ceremony as Nic and A.J. decided who would be “best man” and who would be “maid of honor”.  They settled on holding the rings in the background with the warning from each parent: “do not drop those!”  After the vow renewal ceremony, and the kiss (which both boys averted their eyes for), a short photo shoot began.   Of course, the whole family giggled as a rotund man in a red speedo sauntered past.  “We have to get him in a photo!”  (Note to self: do not let the graphic artist edit him out of that picture.)

As photography came to an end, we all brainstormed on what two teenage boys might like to do while on island and decided Coki Beach, for snorkeling, and Coral World, for checking out the sharks and underwater aquarium, would make everyone happy.  Onward we headed towards the east end of the island.  In the car, Kurt mentioned that he and Jane had met on a blind date.  He told her he loved her after just 7 days.   He proposed after 10 days.  20 years later, still very much in love and with 2 beautiful children, they celebrated their connection, their vows, and their love.  Karmic.
