• St. Thomas has flights from all major US airlines as well as daily flights making connections to other islands and Europe.
• St. Thomas is established as a major cruise ship port in the Caribbean.
• Because of the flight and boat traffic, St. Thomas has access to amenities, services and items that may be hard to find on other islands.
• The USVI Tourism department is robust and enthusiastic, revitalizing their campaign over the past year. As a result, they work to promote the travel industry by keeping flights, voyages and accommodations at comparable rates to other stateside locations to attract visitors.
• The year-long sunshine and warm temperatures offer many opportunities for sunny wedding ceremonies.
• There are multiple beaches with different settings (shady, sandy, rocky, great views, sunset locations, etc…)
• The island offers a variety of different types of settings, from garden villas to beaches to restaurants.
• The island has wedding coordinators with resources and knowledge to help you plan. Other details that might get lost in the planning, like licensing, can be taken care of without worry.

Our first featured destination wedding comes from Brent and Chelsea Wheeler and their ceremony at Magens Bay, St. Thomas, USVI. The North Carolina couple traveled to St. Thomas and stayed at the Marriott Frenchman’s Reef, with their wedding and arrangement details planned and arranged by Tina, Erica and Angela, with Sherri coordinating the event.

The couple chose Magens Bay for their ceremony location, a vast beach with the fantastic ocean horizon in the background. They married in the mid-morning, a time with great lighting for their photos and video.

With 10 guests attending, their ceremony was intimate and fun. Everyone enjoyed being barefoot and relaxed. After the exchanging of vows, the party enjoyed light refreshments, taking photographs and making memories. They then went to Tavern on the Waterfront to continue celebrating for the day.

Brent and Chelsea were pleased with the ease of planning their ceremony–all they really had to do was show up! Weddings the Island Way arranged the ceremony details, photography/videography, refreshments, marriage licensing and additional scheduling.

Looking for a church for your destination wedding ceremony? Often couples would prefer a church wedding, but are unsure about what’s available on St. Thomas. The St. Thomas Reformed church is a simple Caribbean-style church. It’s perfect for a relaxed open-air church setting, with ceiling fans creating a cool breeze. For a Catholic wedding there are two churches available, St. Peter & Paul Cathedral and Our Lady of Perpetual Help. (The Catholic Priests won’t preform ceremonies outside of the church.) If you are looking for a specific denomination we can check into availability for you.

The Garden Terrace is a beautiful quaint location that is private & it overlooks the breathtaking Azure waters of the Atlantic Ocean & has a view of the British Virgin Islands. It is not a church but we can do a Christian ceremony there, as one of our ministers says, the beautiful water color is a nice replacement for stained glass windows. This site is for parties of 20 or less. The advantage of the Garden Terrace over the others is its lovely view.

We can arrange for transportation, flowers, photography, videography, or anything else you might like for your wedding. A coordinator will make sure everything goes smoothly, from helping with the marriage license to being on site during the ceremony.
